A January 2015 survey indicated that 44% of young males in Ohio report “None of these people” have spoken to them about testicular cancer.
In January 2015, Talk About TC surveyed 1000 young men, age 18-34 in Ohio and asked them, “Which of the following people have spoken to you about testicular cancer?” Respondents were given 5 multiple-choices in a multiple-answer format.
44% of respondents answered None of the above
39% of respondents answered My Doctor
22% of respondents answered My High School Teacher/Nurse
20% of respondents answered My Parent
8% of respondents answered My College Professor/Nurse
7% of respondents answered My Sports Coach
Although testicular cancer can occur at any age, it is the leading cause of cancer in guys age 15-35. The survey assessed if those people that are typically close to young men are speaking to them about testicular cancer when these young men are at an age most at risk for the disease. Unfortunately, the results indicate that those closest to these young men are not discussing testicular cancer with them.
The survey was conducted as part of the Talk About TC initiative to end deaths from testicular cancer in the state of Ohio by the year 2020.
